Zero-X Approved for EUIPO SME Fund Grant to Expand Its IP Portfolio

Zero-X has received approval for funding under the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) SME Fund, a European Commission initiative that provides non-dilutive grant capital to small and medium-sized enterprises for the filing and prosecution of intellectual property rights.

The award covers a meaningful share of the costs associated with preparing, filing, and prosecuting the next wave of patents, trademarks, and registered designs protecting the X-150 gasification platform — from the Walzenrost rotating roller grate and the Verkoso tar-reforming reformer to the containerised balance-of-plant architecture and the ZERO-X brand system itself.

Why This Matters

Intellectual property is the defensible core of the Zero-X partner model. The X-150 is not a single machine; it is a stack of protected inventions — the rotating grate that breaks forming clinker, the reformer chemistry that delivers 99.98% tar conversion, the trigeneration package, and the containerised site architecture — each of which is being locked down across the markets where the platform will be deployed.

The SME Fund grant lets Zero-X accelerate that filing programme without diluting equity. It pays for the work that turns know-how into enforceable rights: prior-art searches, drafting, national and regional filings, prosecution office actions, and the European Union Trade Mark and Registered Community Design fees that protect the visual and brand identity of the platform.

The EUIPO SME Fund reimburses a percentage of eligible costs across three tiers of IP activity: trade mark and design registration at national, EUIPO, and international level; European and international patent filings; and, for the current call, plant variety rights.
